New Housing Development

Industrialisation by Rachael Eckett, Jack Hobbs, Theo Read and Robert Yates, 2010
Arrangement of field recordings, 3:51 mins
Field recordings around a housing development site, mostly closed for the winter. Some site traffic, cracking of frozen ground, and an eerie windy space.

The development of new homes close to the shoreline is an important issue in the Severn Estuary, because of the increased need for housing on the one hand, and the increased environmental pressure caused by this on the other. Moreover, with recent climate changes and anticipated sea level rises, the need for a continuous management of coastal protection & flood defences becomes a top priority.
